Meet the creators

In spring 2010 EDUfashion invited 8 designer and crafters from different countries of Europe to participate to a workshop at Ljubljana University, lasting from 14th to 19th of June 2010, to create the first Openwear Collaborative Collection. The aim of the gathering was creating 8 fashion items, each one expressing mainly of the 8 dimensions and values of Openwear Community.

STUDIO I_GLE

Studio I-GLE was established in 1997. by mutual initiative and cooperation of two established fashion designers: Martina VrdoljakRanilović and Nataša Mihaljčišin. Offering a strong visual experience and unique dedication to each individual, I-GLE achieved a cult status in Croatia and abroad. For number of years now, they have distinguished themselves from other designers and designer groups on domestic fashion scene by recognisable authorial approach, and ontheir shows abroad, originality and authenticity of their models was regularly noticed. Conception of I-GLE design is characterised by anauthononimous and carefully thought answer to fashion's basic neccesities and demands in all its aspects. In vitality and charm of the neccessary change, I-GLE are promoting cognizable identity bestowing the originality of its aesthetic by constant experiment and research in tailoring process. Artistic and fashion work of I-GLE has been continously covered by domestic and foreign media, as well as presented and rewarded on numerous siginficant fashion exhibitions home and abroad.

DAVID LUXEMBOURG

Considered as a high edge conceptual designer, Yoad David Luxembourgplaces his attention on crossing borders and breaking boundaries whereever they can be found. His work, interdisciplinary, is composed outof elaborate mixtures of philosophy, psychology, photography and themany fields of art and design. Arriving in the Netherlands in 1999,Luxembourg (already disciplined in architecture and graphic design)has attended the Design Academy in Eindhoven, graduating with honorsin the summer of 2004 and with a new inventive approach to design. Hisprojects, then and also today, deal with fashion, human interactivity,intellect, fantasy and with our capacity as social creatures to dealand perceive the world around us.In 2005/6 Luxembourg continued his journey through the world ofdesign. This time diving deeper into the discipline of fashion design,while completing his master studies in Utrecht’s post graduate schoolof arts (MA/HKU). The resulting collection and the theoretical workthat is behind it have marked him as one of Holland's most promisingdesign/fashion talents.

SERPICA NARO
After his triumph as the icon of the italian movement, San Precario generated in 2005 its anagram Serpica Naro, an anglo-japanese virtualfashion designer at the center of a memorable hoax against Milano's Fashion Week, where she managed to get a catwalk and media coverage asa real fashion designer. Serpica Naro (www.serpicanaro.com) condemned the conditions of precarious workers within italian fashion industry and since then has been working on the concept of open-source brandand empowerment especially concerning the subjectivity of workers inthe creative industries. The collective mixes theory, practice, craftivism and infographics during events, workshops, exhibitions in various institutions and social spaces, in Italy and abroad.

We are Oloop - breakthrough group of tree female designers: TjašaBavcon, Katja Burger, Jasmina Ferček - from Slovenia.We are allMasters of Textile design, getting the additional knowledge in theFinland and Danmark design schools.In the last year we won highrecognition for our designs because of their clean appearance,thoughtful usage and inside worth. Oloop Design We work in the fieldof product and space design and we have our own small production.Withour designs, we want to encourage people to experience the product orspace in order to become their own designers. OPENSOURCE PANTS

Aviv learned to crochet and knit in his mother's womb. it was a method for her to while away the time during pregnancy. now all grown up,Aviv crochets, embroiders and sews as part of global movements forsocial change. his efforts to ward-off gentrification, stop global warming and end the violence in Israel/Palestine have so far been unsuccessful. He was part of collective YoMango, the shoplifting movement that originated in Barcelona (Spain) in 2002 and LasAgencias, an informally structured collective of artists and activists who have produced a series of multi-disciplinary art campaigns confronting nationalism, militarism, the gentrification of localbarrios as well as projects that support squatters rights and migrant workers.

DANIELA PAIS

Daniela Pais is an architect fashion designer. She had her B.A from the Fashion department of the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Lisbon in 2002. In the same year she co-founded KrvKurva together with designer Jorge Moita. Krv Kurva developed the La.Ga bag a project that traveled around the world throughout exhibitions, publications and stores.The simplicity, sustainability and social concerns which lied behind Pais’ work brought her back to the academic realm where she furthered her studies in 2005 at the Masters program 'Man and Humanity' at the Design Academy Eindhoven.Throughout those two years Pais developed projects where the individual well-being became her main concern. In 2007 she undertook a research about the consumption of clothing, which developed into a project called 'Elementum' which re-questions the fundamentals behind fashion and identity. Daniela Pais likes to work with structures, to give form to objects according to the material and context. She lives today between Portugal and the Netherlands where she is working on a nun-going research and new ideas and productions.

PAMOYO

Pamoyo is a green, open source fashion label with Berlin roots. We create fashion design that style & remix culture, recycled garments and ecological materials. The designs are shared under CreativeCommons license free for everyone to tweak and remake. Pamoyo has existed since 2008 and is led by designer Cecilia Palmer, and agrowing number of creatives that contribute to the collections.Pamoyo clothes are designed with flow, drawing connections between thepast and the future. We follow our own rhythm of collections andstyles and strive to make every collection a new artistic invention orsocial statement. Instead of following fashion seasons or trends, wecreate an inspiring flow of new products and items.We believe in slow fashion. Clothing you want to live in, thataccompany you on adventures, create own stories together with you. Wechoose for quality as well as a green, social manufacturing process.We upcycle locally sourced vintage garments into new styles, combinedwith organic, fairly produced cotton from Turkey and Uganda. Wecollaborate with a local production studio and all the clothing ismade in Berlin-Neukölln.

JURE PURGAJ

Jure Purgaj was born on 1.5.1981 in Slovenj Gradec, Slovenia. Hefinished the University for Applied arts in Vienna, Fashion design,under Raf Simons (Now head of Jill Sander). For his graduatingCollection he received the Diesel support award 2005. In 2007 he was aguest in the Artist House Villa Waldberta / Munich, where he made theproject 'We all can dress as Europeans'. In the Year 2008 he wasawarded with the title «Perspective» during the Mouth of Design inLjubljana, Slovenia. From 2008 he is a member of the group Squat,where he is researching new ways of independent fashion promotion and selling. He understands fashion as a wide field of possibilities,where the most important thing is the understanding of the difference between apparel and fashion design. He believes that fashion is a contemporary way of researching bodies, textures and coloring of our environment. This is one of the main reasons why you won’t find a classical A/W and S/S concept in his collections. During the searches for his work, videos become a side product, which are always presented separately from his designs. His work is being published by National and International Papers.
